The American Association for the Advancement of Science has named seven University of California, Irvine researchers as fellows, according to a March 26 announcement from the university. The scholars work in fields including chemistry, civil and environmental engineering, neurobiology, and physics.
The recognition highlights the important contributions made by these researchers to their respective disciplines. AAAS fellowship is considered a lifetime honor that acknowledges efforts to advance science or its applications.

This year, AAAS is honoring a total of 500 scientists, engineers and innovators across 24 disciplinary sections. Election as an AAAS Fellow dates back to 1874 and comes with expectations that recipients will uphold professional ethics and scientific integrity throughout their careers.
With this latest group, UC Irvine now counts 160 AAAS Fellows among its faculty.
