Julia Brownley, the U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 26th district since 2013, has made several public statements highlighting urgent issues and policy areas that concern her. In a series of tweets dated April 22, 2025, Brownley addressed the climate crisis, national security leaks, and the importance of Social Security.

In one of her tweets, Brownley addresses the challenges posed by climate change. Citing actions by the Trump administration, she remarked, “The climate crisis is not a distant threat – it’s already here. At the very moment when bold action is needed, the Trump administration is doing the opposite. They have laid off thousands of climate scientists at NOAA, proposed a 65% cut to the EPA’s workforce, and frozen” (2025-04-22).

In another tweet, Congresswoman Brownley brings attention to security concerns related to Pete Hegseth, accusing him of leaking sensitive military information. She stated, “Yet again, Pete Hegseth has proven he cannot be trusted with our nation’s most sensitive and classified information. Hegseth didn’t just leak classified military information once on an unsecured messaging app — he did it twice, as far as we are aware. This time, the recipients” (2025-04-22).

Additionally, she emphasized the significance of Social Security with a message to her followers. Brownley affirmed, “Social Security is a promise to the American people — a promise that after a lifetime of hard work, you can retire with dignity. It’s a promise that our veterans will be cared for, that people with disabilities won’t be left behind, and that working families will have some” (2025-04-22).

Julia Brownley, a native of Aiken, South Carolina, has a long-standing career in politics. She has represented California’s 26th district in the U.S. Congress since 2013, succeeding David Dreier, and served in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012. She holds degrees from George Washington University and American University.
