Congresswoman Julia Brownley, who has represented California’s 26th district in the U.S. Congress since 2013, recently shared a series of updates on social media concerning her engagements and perspectives on various issues.

On May 9, 2025, Brownley expressed her participation in the “Take 5 and Read to Kids!” campaign organized by First 5 Ventura. She stated, “I recently joined First 5 Ventura for their Take 5 and Read to Kids! campaign to encourage families to talk, read, and sing with young children. Together, we’re raising awareness about the critical importance of early childhood language and literacy development.” The initiative aims to promote early childhood language skills through family engagement.

In another post dated May 10, 2025, Brownley addressed the significance of small businesses in local economies. She remarked that “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, especially here in #VenturaCounty and the Conejo Valley, where over 22,000 small businesses drive innovation, create jobs, and power our region.” However, she also highlighted challenges faced by these enterprises due to policies from former President Trump’s administration.

On May 11, 2025, Congresswoman Brownley extended Mother’s Day wishes through a heartfelt message. She wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother figures in our lives! As a mother and grandmother, I know the job is far from easy but the journey of motherhood is deeply rewarding.” This message underscored her personal connection as both a mother and grandmother.

Julia Brownley was born in Aiken, South Carolina in 1952. She graduated from George Washington University with a BA in 1975 and furthered her education at American University in 1979. Prior to serving in Congress since replacing David Dreier in 2013 for California’s District 26 seat, she served as a member of the California State Assembly from 2006 until her congressional election.
