UC Irvine professor and senior associate dean, Dr. Susanne Phillips, has been announced as the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Policy Award from the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Phillips has been recognized for her significant contributions to improving healthcare access and the role of advanced practice registered nurses.

Mark Lazenby, dean of UC Irvine’s nursing school, praised Phillips, stating, "Dr. Susanne Phillips is one of California’s leading nurse policy experts." Lazenby highlighted her advocacy efforts that led to legislative changes benefiting nurse practitioners both in California and on a national level.

Expressing her gratitude for the award, Phillips stated, "I am honored to receive this award." She emphasized her commitment to advocating for policy changes that enhance community health and remove barriers to advanced practice nursing, as well as her dedication to educating future healthcare professionals.

Phillips' impactful work in California has included advocating for the rights and privileges of nurse practitioners to deliver essential healthcare services. Her role as an expert on the California Board of Registered Nursing has ensured that public policy aligns with the best interests of healthcare providers and patients.

The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 20, as part of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties’ 50th annual conference in Baltimore.

The Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing at UC Irvine plays a crucial role in the university's Brilliant Future campaign, which aims to raise support and awareness for UC Irvine's endeavors in student success, health and wellness, research, and more.
