The University of California, Irvine announced on March 17 the launch of Spotlight OC, a new program designed to provide Orange County residents with direct access to influential people and locations in the region.

Spotlight OC aims to strengthen community ties by offering immersive learning experiences led by university faculty and experts. The program will feature quarterly Saturday events, starting April 18 at Mercado González Northgate Market in Costa Mesa, where participants can join guided tours, demonstrations, and discussions.

Kristine Collins, dean of continuing education at UC Irvine, said, “Spotlight OC reflects the power of public education and community engagement coming together. UC Irvine’s Division of Continuing Education is proud to connect residents with cultural experiences that are memorable, educational, and accessible across a region of remarkable depth and diversity.” Jon B. Gould, dean of the School of Social Ecology, added: “Stronger communities begin with a deeper understanding of the places we share, the people who shape them, and the forces that bring us together. By opening doors to the diverse stories and spaces that define Orange County, we’re allowing residents to engage with their community in a meaningful, intellectually enriching way.”

The initiative is organized by UC Irvine’s Division of Continuing Education in partnership with several campus offices. Registration for Spotlight OC is now open through https://ce.uci.edu/spotlightoc.
