WASHINGTON, D.C. — On June 15, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46), the Ranking Member of the House Border Security and Enforcement Subcommittee, alongside a bipartisan group of Representatives, including Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Nydia Velazquez (NY-7), Yvette D. Clarke (NY-9), Judy Chu (CA-28), Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Pramila Jayapal (WA-7), Delia Ramirez (IL-3), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-5), Maria Salazar (FL-27), John Duarte (CA-13), and González Colón (PR- At Large), reintroduced the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act for the 118th Congress.

The Dream and Promise Act provides a pathway to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients.

“Dreamers deserve to live in peace and continue contributing to our great nation without fear of deportation,” said Rep. Correa. “As the representative of one of the largest populations of DACA recipients in the United States, I am incredibly proud to stand alongside my colleagues today to re-introduce this bipartisan piece of legislation to fulfill our promise to protect Dreamers. Our Dreamers have earned this. And it is past time we get this to President Biden’s desk.”

“Dreamers and TPS recipients deserve equal opportunities. It's time to open doors and empower these talented individuals by granting them access to citizenship they rightfully deserve,” said Rep. Garcia. “These children know only America as their home. They contribute to society as taxpayers, small business owners, educators, and more. Citizenship is the only path forward. The time is now to provide dreamers with a pathway to citizenship. Many of them know the United States as their one and only home. America supports Dreamers and Dreamers support America.”

The bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act of 2023 aims to provide Dreamers, TPS holders and DED recipients with a path to citizenship. It creates a permanent resident status for 10 years for Dreamers, grants individuals with TPS or DED a full lawful permanent resident status and sets forth a number of provisions that protect Dreamers and immigrant families during their application for equal and fair citizenship.
