Congresswoman Julia Brownley, representing California's 26th district since 2013, has recently expressed her concerns on social media regarding several issues impacting healthcare and veterans' affairs. Her comments have highlighted the potential repercussions of proposed policy changes by Republican lawmakers and the Trump Administration.
On March 21, Brownley was joined by Dr. Gagan Pawar, CEO of Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc., and Jenna Tosh, CEO of Planned Parenthood California Central Coast. Together they denounced a Republican proposal that could lead to significant Medicaid cuts. In her tweet "Today, I was joined by Dr. Gagan Pawar, CEO of Clinicas del Camino Real, Inc., and Jenna Tosh, CEO of Planned Parenthood California Central Coast, to denounce the Republican proposal for the largest Medicaid cuts in history – jeopardizing care for millions, including over 200,000", she emphasized the risk posed to millions relying on Medicaid.
On March 24, Brownley criticized the Trump Administration's plan to cut jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). She stated in her tweet "The Trump Administration’s plan to cut over 80,000 employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs, in addition to the 2,400 VA employees who have already been terminated, is an alarming move that threatens the health and well-being of our nation’s veterans." She expressed concern about how these reductions might impact veterans' health services.
Further criticism was directed towards Pete Hegseth and senior officials within Trump's administration on March 25. Brownley's tweet "The sheer incompetence of Pete Hegseth and Trump’s senior officials isn’t just outrageous; it’s outright dangerous." underscored her disapproval regarding their management practices.
