Congresswoman Julia Brownley, who represents California’s 26th district, has expressed her concerns through a series of tweets regarding recent actions taken by President Trump. These tweets, posted on January 28 and 29, 2025, address the implications of an executive order issued by the former president that freezes federal funding.
On January 28, Brownley criticized President Trump's decision to freeze all federal grants. She described it as "a direct attack on our community," emphasizing that this action halts essential funding for schools, law enforcement and public safety agencies, food assistance programs such as Meals on Wheels, and infrastructure improvements. "President Trump's freeze on all federal grants is a direct attack on our community."
Later that day, Brownley raised further concerns about the White House's list of paused programs due to what she referred to as Trump's "unconstitutional executive order." She noted that among the affected are critical veterans' services encompassing housing assistance, education and job training, and veterans treatment programs. "The White House list of programs paused by Trump's unconstitutional executive order is deeply concerning."
In another tweet dated January 29, Brownley highlighted the disruption caused by Trump's executive order freezing federal funding. She criticized House Republicans for spending time at a Trump resort in Doral, Florida instead of addressing the consequences of the funding freeze affecting millions of Americans.
