Congresswoman Julia Brownley, representing California's 26th district, expressed her concerns regarding recent political developments through a series of tweets on April 2, 2025. Brownley criticized decisions made by House Republicans as well as policies under the Trump administration, highlighting issues she perceives as conflicting with the principles of family values and economic stability.

In a tweet posted on April 2, 2025, Brownley called out House Republicans and Speaker Johnson for hypocrisy. She stated, "The hypocrisy of House Republicans and Speaker Johnson was on full display this week. While they claim to be the 'party of family values,' when it’s time to act, their so-called principles are just empty rhetoric." Brownley was specifically critical of their refusal to allow remote voting for colleagues on parental leave.

Brownley also criticized former President Trump's economic policies in a tweet from the same day. She remarked, "Trump is making a mockery and an outright mess of the American economy, pushing reckless tariffs that hurt families and businesses. He promised to lower costs on day one. Instead, he's driving up prices on groceries and household goods, sending the stock market into freefall," expressing concern over the rising costs and market instability.

Further addressing socio-economic issues, Brownley tweeted about the Trump administration's indifference to working families. She noted, "The Trump administration has made no secret of its cruel indifference towards the needs of America's working families – especially those who depend on critical government programs and resources to put food on the table. With food costs skyrocketing, lower-income families are." She emphasized the strain on lower-income families amid increasing food costs.
